Cable TV vs Satellite TV

There are two basic choices available when it comes to television -- cable, or satellite. Both types of TV have a lot to offer customers. Because both types do offer so many benefits, it can be hard for customers to decide which type is best for them. In this article, we'll explore the differences between cable and satellite television to help you make a more informed choice about how you watch TV.

Cable television is the older of the two. There are three forms of cable television -- antenna, analog, and digital. Antenna cable is basically obsolete, and only allows viewers to access a limited number of channels. Analog cable allows customers to pick up local channels as well as additional channels such as HBO and ESPN. For many years, this was the preferred way to watch TV. Then, digital cable came along. With digital cable, you can get even more channels than you can with analog.

Digital cable offers hundreds of channels, including ones that you cannot get on analog. You also receive a variety of music channels in many different genres. Another benefit of digital cable is the DVR box option. DVR stands for digital video recorder or recording, and is a whole new way to watch your favorite programs. You can pause live television, rewind and fast forward, record, and replay. The DVR box stores a large amount of recorded programs and lets you play them back anytime. You can record one thing while you're watching something else, or even when the television is turned off. It's simple to schedule your recordings ahead of time, so you never miss a favorite show or movie!

You can get DVR with satellite television as well. Satellite television offers many of the same benefits as digital cable. With satellite TV from one of the two leading providers, DirecTV and Dish Network, you can access hundreds of channels. There are convenient packages for customers to choose from so they get the channels they want at a price they can afford. Satellite tv works by using a satellite orbiting the Earth to send and receive broadcast signals, which are then sent to customers satellite dishes.

So, which is better? That all depends on where you are, the type of programming you want, and your personal preferences. Both cable tv and satellite tv offer lots of benefits. The best way to decide is to check with the providers in your area to see which offers the most attractive programming choices for the best value.
